Thoughts

This morning, prior to today's first shovel, I turned on WTTW channel 11 and heard some of the simplest, yet profound words. First, I heard, "your body is a dynamic activity in a dynamic universe", and then, "the body you have right now is a result of your past experiences; if you want a new body you must change your experiences".

I'm going to hold off on revealing the source of the phrases but out of a thirty minute lecture, I found these two phrases very profound and liberating. The speaker talked about how the human body is a result of  the multitude of simultaneous activities working in tandem to help a person function, making the body a continuum of dynamic activity. The basic activities of the body reflect those of the universe; always changing and evolving. The speaker explained the second phrase as being connected to how we deal with addictions or how we don't face issues which need to be addressed.

I have a lot of thoughts connected to each of these phrases but, I'm curious to hear the thought of others.

Weight Loss and Math

As the new year quickly approaches, I've noticed a barrage of information about changing your lifestyle and committing to a more healthful life style. In this deluge of information, I decided to pull what I found to be very informative videos (for today). I'm hopeful that you'll have some time to browse through these videos and gain information which may be helpful in your process.

Most of these videos focus on the logistics of weight loss ( diet and exercise) and not the psychology behind losing weight so, it's not the complete package but helpful. Take a look at what sounds appealing to you and let me know your thoughts.

One More Debism...

Have you ever been in a training session with Deb and she pulls out that darn jump rope? I would always think, "how uncoordinated can I look in front of everyone?","will my sports bar really work under these conditions?","what am I, 12?" Nevertheless, I completed my two minutes, went on to complete another activity and then came back for more. Well, those minutes of jump rope, may really be some of the best moments of your training session. Take a look at what CBS Sunday Morning had to say about jumping rope.

Skinny Cocktails

In the initial strand of emails, many of you expressed concerns about having a glass of wine or a cocktail integrated into your eating plans. I too like to have a weekly cocktail every Sunday evening as a friend and I get together to watch trashy reality television. While a good cocktail is a nice release , the number of calories in one drink can be astonishing. Luckily, you can make a couple of adjustments to relieve drinking most of your daily calories. Go with a brand such as Skinny Girl or take some of the steps suggested by WebMD for reducing the caloric intake. Take a look at their suggestions.

Deb was right!...Did we ever doubt her?

Here is an interesting article I found about consuming almonds and the satiating benefits they have on your diet. I must say that whenever I eat nuts, I do feel quite full...here's additional evidence to support the benefits of eating nuts. Cheers, Deb!

While lisenting to the NPR clip on food and alcohol, I couldn't help but feel that David Sedaris must have some thoughts on women and weight...I was right. I'm a big Sedaris fan and thought you all might appreciate the story he has to tell about his father and the relationship with some of the women in his life. This is a story from This American Life. Listen to Act I and share your thoughts.
